West Memorial Swim Team

We had a great season in 2009!

The status of the meets were about 50/50, but so many children learned to swim. We had a couple of non swimmers go on to be at the top of their age groups, that's how I measure success.

We are different from other swim teams in that we register and swim everyone. We don't train for three weeks and then cut the weaker swimmers, so they don't have to be great swimmers to be on the Tiger Shark team. We had a lot of new swimmers/parents and they walked away at the end of the season tired, but very pleased with the improvement in their children. I don't think I heard anyone say they would not be back.

We had 10 swimmers advance from the Meet of Champions to the All Stars Meet, 8 of them competed at the All Stars and 3 of them brought home medals. There are 3,900 swimmers in the league, so those that advanced made quite an accomplishment.

We are losing one of our coaches, she is moving to Alvin, Texas. Rachel Jablonski has agreed to return as our Head Coach next year, so we are in good hands.

Look for us again in March 2010 for details on how to register to become a West Memorial Tiger Shark. We are so proud of All of our Tiger Sharks!! We thank the West Memorial Civic Association for their support and the use of their facilities.

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail Helen Helm, our Tiger Sharks’ Swim Team President, at wmsttigersharks@gmail.com.

As part of the West Houston Aquatic League, our team offers an unsurpassed opportunity for fitness, friendly competition, and fun. See you at the pool.!
